Copy Components from Course to Course

You can copy course components among any course offering in which you are the instructor. This is a step you will need to do for each course offering, as the process that creates "official" course offerings (the ones with students) only creates empty shells.

The steps are easy. It's like going on vacation and deciding what to pack after you arrive. The process differs whether you want to copy an entire course offering or select certain items. Note that the first two steps are the same in both processes.

Copy an Entire Course Offering

  1. In your destination course offering, choose Edit Course and then click on the button to Import / Export / Copy Components.
  2. Choose the default option (Copy Components from another Org Unit) and click the Search for offering button.
    • A new browser window appears that shows the course offerings eligible to be used as a source. Select one and click the Add Selected button - the new window closes and the Import/Export/Copy Components page lists the course offering you selected.
  3. You can choose to copy everything from the source by clicking the button to Copy All Components. The page will refresh to the Copy Course Components History page and you will see a progress indicator. Depending on how much material you are copying, this will take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.
  4. Once the copy finishes, a success indicator appears on the Copy Course Components History page. Your copy is complete. Note that you will need to apply any custom homepages or navbars that you copied, but all other items should be in place as they were in your source course offering.

Copy Parts of a Course Offering

  3. The Choose Components to Copy page lists all of the components in the source course offering, and you can select all of a certain tool (e.g., all of the Dropbox folders) and/or some of a certain tool (e.g., some but not all of the Quizzes).
    • Note: If you choose to Content piecemeal, make sure you include Course Files as well - each Content topic has a corresponding Course File that must be copied else there will be a broken link in your content area.
  4. Click the Continue button. If you chose the option to select some of a certain tool, Desire2Learn will present a series of pages (one for each tool) and ask you which of that tool you want to copy.
  • After selecting individual items (if necessary), the Confirm Components to Copy page appears with a Finish button. Click this to complete the process.
  • Once the copy finishes, a success indicator appears on the Copy Course Components page. Your copy is complete. Note that you will need to apply any custom homepages or navbars that you copied, but all other items should be in place as they were in your source course offering.
